Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction
Inducible laryngeal obstruction (ILO), previously known as vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) or paradoxical vocal fold movement (PVFM), is when the vocal cords close when they should open during breathing. This causes a narrowing of the airway and makes it difficult to get air into the lungs. Exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) is a type of ILO triggered by physical exertion.
Perth Adult Speech Pathology are one of the very few clinics in Australia who are highly skilled in diagnosing and treating ILO. We work closely with respiratory physicians and ENTs to provide effective treatment to eliminate this debilitating condition.
